About SUBVRT

SUBVRT Experience Studio is a Sydney-based creative design and live events agency specialising in experience design, large-scale event production, and spatial/interior projects. We work across brand activations, cultural events, music festivals, and greenfield experiences for clients who demand genuine creative vision and world-class execution.

The Creative Department is the creative heart of SUBVRT. Every piece of work that leaves this department is a direct expression of who we are as an agency.

The Role

The Designer is a core creative role within SUBVRT's Creative Department, reporting directly to the Creative Director, you will work across experiential, spatial, and graphic design formats, contributing to the delivery of projects that span concept through to production.

This is not a purely executional role. You bring genuine creative capability across 2D and 3D formats, and you are expected to engage with the work at a conceptual level, not just produce what you are handed. You will work closely with the Creative Director and Senior Designer, absorbing how projects are developed and led, and progressively taking on greater creative responsibility as your experience and confidence grows.

The right person for this role has strong foundational skills, a natural curiosity for experiential and spatial design, and the drive to develop into a senior creative. You are not there yet, but you are clearly heading in that direction.

Key Responsibilities

Design Execution

•       Produce high-quality design work across 2D and 3D formats including concept visuals, mood boards, spatial layouts, renders, graphic assets, and event collateral

•       Execute design briefs set by the Creative Director and Senior Designer with accuracy, craft, and initiative, delivering work that meets the creative intent of the project

•       Develop design work across multiple concurrent projects, managing your own workload and delivering to agreed timelines without close supervision

•       Maintain consistent quality and attention to detail across all outputs, from early concept work through to production-ready documentation

•       Take ownership of quality control on your own work, reviewing thoroughly before submission and flagging early if anything is at risk

Concept Development and Creative Contribution

•       Participate actively in concept ideation and creative reviews, contributing ideas and visual references that add value to the project development process

•       Develop your understanding of how creative strategy and conceptual thinking translate into design outcomes across experiential and spatial formats

•       Research trends, references, and innovation across experiential, spatial, events, and brand design, bringing relevant thinking into the team

•       Develop and present design work internally with clarity, and contribute to client-facing presentations as directed by the Creative Director

Project Contribution

•       Support the Senior Designer and Creative Director in the delivery of projects, taking on defined design workstreams and seeing them through to completion

•       Contribute to the production of creative documentation including design briefs, specification packages, and asset libraries

•       Attend site visits, production walkthroughs, and event delivery where your design contribution requires on-the-ground presence

•       Coordinate with the Producer Team and Production Department at defined touchpoints to ensure your design work integrates accurately with project delivery requirements

Brand and Marketing Support

•       Contribute to SUBVRT's own marketing materials, case studies, and award submissions, maintaining alignment with the agency's brand standards

•       Support the maintenance of internal asset libraries and brand templates, keeping files organised and accessible for the broader team

Collaboration and Professional Development

•       Work collaboratively within the Creative Department and across SUBVRT's Producer and Production teams, communicating clearly and responding well to direction and feedback

•       Actively seek feedback on your work and apply it consistently, using each project as an opportunity to develop your skills and deepen your understanding of the craft

•       Demonstrate a genuine interest in the experiential and events industry, staying curious about how design intersects with production, technology, and live experience

What You Bring

Experience

•       3 to 4 years of experience in a design role, with a focus on experiential, spatial, events, or a closely related creative field

•       A portfolio demonstrating strong design fundamentals across both 2D and 3D formats, with evidence of creative range and a developing point of view

•       Some experience working within an agency or studio environment on client briefs, with an understanding of how design work fits into a broader project delivery process

•       Exposure to spatial or environmental design, whether through experiential, interior, architectural, or set design contexts

Skills and Capabilities

•       Solid proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

•       Working knowledge of SketchUp and Vectorworks as primary CAD and spatial design tools, with a clear interest in developing this capability further

•       Ability to produce concept visuals, mood boards, and design presentations that communicate ideas clearly and compellingly

•       Organised and self-managing, able to handle multiple briefs concurrently and deliver to deadline without losing quality

•       Clear communicator who takes direction well, asks good questions, and flags issues early

•       Developing understanding of production requirements, fabrication constraints, and how design decisions translate into real-world delivery

Personal Attributes

•       Genuine creative curiosity and a clear appetite for experiential, spatial, and live event design

•       A strong work ethic and commitment to producing design that is considered, crafted, and consistently excellent

•       Open to feedback and actively motivated to grow, with a clear desire to develop toward a senior creative role

•       Collaborative and team-oriented, with the maturity to take direction and contribute positively to a high-performing creative environment

•       Adaptable and calm under pressure, able to respond to shifting priorities and fast turnarounds without losing quality or focus

•       Ambitious without being impatient. You understand that great creative careers are built on craft, not just titles

What We Offer

•       A creative role with genuine variety across client activations, live events, spatial projects, and internal brand work

•       Direct exposure to experienced creative leadership and a clear development pathway within the department

•       A collaborative, fast-moving environment where quality is expected and good work is recognised

•       The opportunity to work on projects that actually get built, in a team that cares about doing them well

•       Competitive salary commensurate with experience
